Chief Sadler was sworn in as Chief of Police by the Honorable J. Richard Gray, Mayor of Lancaster, on April 23, 2008. The Lancaster Bureau of Police is a full service police department providing service to the City of Lancaster and, since 1970, to Lancaster Township on a contractual basis. The Bureau is the largest and only urban law enforcement agency in Lancaster County, serving a population of 70,000 residents. The bureau consists of approximately 250 sworn and civilian employees.
Chief Sadler is responsible for the protection of lives and property in the City through the organization and directing of all police functions. His duties involve the planning, directing and coordinating of patrol, traffic, juvenile, criminal investigation and related services and activities, and overseeing the training, assignment and discipline of all Bureau members.
Chief Sadler began is career in law enforcement with the Philadelphia Police Department in 1981. While in Philadelphia he was assigned to many areas of the department, including Patrol, Detectives, SWAT and Narcotics. Sadler held the following ranks in Philadelphia, Police Officer in 1981, Sergeant in 1986, Lieutenant in 1989, Captain in 1994, Inspector in 1997 and Chief Inspector in 2002. As a Chief Inspector he was the Chief of Patrol, Chief of Narcotics, Chief of Forensic Science Bureau and the Chief of the Detective Bureau.
Chief Sadler is strongly committed to training and education. He holds an A.A.S. in Justice from Community College of Philadelphia, a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Alvernia College, where he graduated summa cum laude, and a M.Ed. (Master’s in Urban Education) from Alvernia College. Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Education Leadership at Alvernia College. He is an adjunct professor at Alvernia College. Sadler is a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society.
Chief Sadler has built strong relationships with the diverse communities throughout Lancaster, Philadelphia and many communities in Pennsylvania. He works closely with several local, state and federal law enforcement agencies including the FBI, DEA, ATF, Pennsylvania State Police and many police departments in the Susquehanna Valley.
He was born and raised in West Philadelphia. Currently, he resides with his wife and children in Lancaster. Chief Sadler looks forward a long and enjoyable tenure with the City of Lancaster and he believes the City and the Bureau of Police to be the greatest in the country.
