Captain Kent Switzer was appointed to the rank of Captain in December of 2010, and placed in command of the Criminal Investigations Division.
Cpt. Switzer graduated from Millersville University in 1986 with a B.A. in Psychology. He began his Law Enforcement career with the Bureau in July 1986. Cpt. Switzer has worked in both the Patrol and Criminal Investigations Division. Cpt. Switzer was transferred to CID in February 1992 as an officer. On January 16, 1994 he was promoted to Detective. Throughout his career in CID Cpt. Switzer became a polygraph examiner and specialized in Violent, Gang, and Pattern crimes. On March 19, 1995 he was promoted to Sergeant and became the supervising Det. Sgt. of the Pattern and Violent Gang Crimes Unit within CID. While in this position Cpt. Switzer was intimately involved in many high profile homicide and gang cases investigated by CID. On September 5, 2004 Switzer was promoted to Lieutenant and remained in CID as a supervising Detective Lieutenant, again directly involved in many of the major cases investigated by members of CID.
He remained in charge of the Violent Crimes Unit until his promotion in December 2010. Cpt. Switzer has received numerous awards throughout his career to include; Slaugh Patrolman of the year award in 1992, the Kauffman Award, Police Foundation Award for Excellence, Award for Merit, Distinguished Unit Citation, Outstanding Enforcement Award, numerous letters of commendation and numerous letters of appreciation from other Law Enforcement agencies and the citizens of Lancaster for outstanding police work and representation of the Bureau.
