Captain Pete Anders was appointed to the rank of Captain in August of 2006, and placed in command of the Patrol Division, which is the most integral part of the Bureau. The key to crime prevention, public safety and successful criminal investigations hinges on the relentless work and community contact of the uniformed officers of the Bureau.
In July of 2008, Captain Anders accepted command of the Criminal Investigations Division, an assignment to coordinate outstanding investigations among detectives recognized as being the top in their field.
Captain Anders believes that the strength that defines the entire Police Bureau continues to be shaped by consistent tradition and effort within patrol and investigations. The high level of consistent solid work and coordination among officers and investigators from the arrests, to interviews, to reporting, follow-ups and testimony sets Lancaster apart from other communities. Captain Anders aspires to continue this tradition of excellence among Divisions.
Captain Anders was sworn in as an officer with the Lancaster Bureau of Police in 1990. Anders worked in the following assignments within the Patrol Division as an officer: SE Patrol, Community Policing Officer assigned to the Green and Lime St. neighborhood, and Drug Suppression Unit Officer. In 1995, Anders was assigned as an investigator to the Pattern Crime Unit now the Violent Crime Unit within CID. As an investigator, Anders received the Kaufman Award for the successful investigation of a cold case homicide which resulted in the life sentence of the murderer. Anders has received numerous departmental commendations and recognition from Hogar Crea and Special Olympics for volunteerism, from the Lancaster clergy and the Human Relations Commission for service to the community.
Captain Anders was promoted from Detective to Sergeant in 2001 and to Lieutenant in January 2005. Anders supervised the Violent Crime Unit, the Selective Enforcement Unit, and the Community Police Unit and served as a street sergeant as a Sergeant. Anders supervised B Platoon one of two permanent night shift platoons as a Lieutenant. Capt. Anders was appointed to Captain in 2006.
Captain Anders graduated from Hempfield H.S. and graduated with a BA in Psychology from Millersville University, and is a graduate of Northwestern University School for Police Staff and Command. Anders lives in Lancaster County with his wife and three children.
