Crime Alert

Beginning in February 2003, the Bureau of Police began to assign a police officer on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. This is a contracted “Community Policing” position which requires that the officer (whenever practical) patrol on a bicycle and maintain a highly visible police presence. The officers’ primary objective is to prevent, deter, and reduce criminal activity in the neighborhoods that surround F&M properties. The officers pay particular attention to quality of life issues.

The officers provide supplemental police service to enforce all state and local laws and to assist F&M in attaining its public safety goals of reducing crime and enhancing the quality of life for residents and business owners. The patrol area includes the surrounding neighborhoods where off-campus facilities and housing for students are located. Officers patrol the campus when necessary, however primary patrol is afforded to the surrounding neighborhoods.
