Requirements

The Lancaster Bureau of Police has a set practice for testing job applicants which includes a physical fitness test, a psychological evaluation, reading test and criminal background check.

1. Valid Pennsylvania Drivers License by date of hire.
2. Proof of a high school diploma or equivalent
3. Must be 21 by date of hire
4. Must speak English fluently
5. Pass all physical examinations and tests
6. Pass a psychological evaluation
7. Pass drug screening
8. Applicants weight must be in proportion of his or her height
9. Vision – Standard for vision is based on MPOETC requirements
10. Candidate must successfully pass an extensive background investigation. Conviction of a Felony WILL bar appointment; a Misdemeanor MAY bar appointment.
11. Candidate must consent to a polygraph examination prior to appointment to the bureau.
12. Officer must reside in Lancaster County or within a thirteen-mile radius of Penn Square with in three months of hire.
