The Crime Prevention Unit is a link between the community and the police. The Crime Prevention Unit serves to inform and educate the public as to what they can do to prevent crime in and around their neighborhood.

The Crime Prevention unit serves the community by going out and speaking at meetings, providing literature and taking back information from the public to the police officers. City and Township residents are encouraged to contact the Crime Prevention Unit if they are planning a neighborhood meeting or are looking for information regarding Crime Prevention. You can reach the CPU by calling 735-3315.

Crime Prevention Tips:

  1. Leave porch a light on or use sensor lights. Proper lighting is a deterrent to many criminals.
  2. Remove all valuables from vehicles.
  3. Look out for the older residents in your neighborhood. Scam artists and other criminals prey on the older residents of society.
  4. Secure all windows and door at your residence and vehicle. Unlocked vehicles and residences are easy targets for criminals.
  5. Always be aware of your surroundings. Whether you are in your neighborhood or another location it is good to make a conscious effort to be aware of who is around you.

In response, security professionals must familiarize themselves with the principles of environmental crime prevention and learn how they relate to architectural design and urban planning.
