Shop With a Cop

20 November 2012 by Sgt. Ray Corll

The Lancaster City Bureau of Police would like to announce that on Saturday, December 1st, officers and troopers from the Lancaster Metropolitan Area will be participating in “Shop with a Cop.” Hosted by the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in downtown Lancaster City, “Shop with a Cop” is an opportunity for police officers to go Christmas shopping with children who have been impacted by the criminal justice system.

This will be the third year for the event. The children are being referred to Trinity Lutheran by Crispus Attucks Community Center and Children of Incarcerated Parents. Financial gifts forwarded to Trinity Lutheran (31 S. Duke St, Lancaster, PA 17602, (717) 397-2734) are used to purchase $100 Wal-Mart gift cards for each child to spend as that child wishes. The children will then be teamed up with an officer or trooper to go Christmas shopping.

Schultz Transportation will be providing three school buses to transport the approximately 70 children along with the officers and troopers from Trinity Lutheran to the Wal-mart on Lincoln Highway in East Lampeter Township. Lunch will be provided at the church to the children and their “cops” while volunteers wrap the children’s gifts.

 Happy Holidays!
