1.23.13 Attempted Kidnapping, Gun Arrest
SUSPECT /ARREST: Luis Alberto CASTRO
200 blk. Riders Way
At 10:11 a.m. January 23, 2014 Lancaster City Police officers responded to a business in the 200 blk. of N. Duke St. for a disturbance in progress. Dispatchers relayed that a male was attempting to forcibly enter the building. Upon arrival, Sgt. Mark Heiser, Off. Phil Bernot, Off. Eliud Tirado and Off. Daniel Hunsicker went to the rear of the business, where they could hear a female screaming. Officers observed the above suspect, later identified as Luis Castro, attempting to push a female into the open driver's door of a white SUV while Castro had a handgun pointed into the victim's rib cage. Officers ordered Castro to drop the gun and he tossed it into the SUV. Castro released the female victim and he was immediately taken into custody. The victim was not injured. The handgun, a loaded Maadi Helwan 9mm semi-automatic pistol, was recovered at the scene.
Upon further investigation it was determined that Castro went to the business to confront his wife, a 27-year-old Lebanon, PA resident who is an employee there. Castro attempted to gain entry to the office building by yelling and screaming and repeatedly banging on the front glass entry door. Castro then pointed a handgun at another employee and told her to open the door or she was going to die too. At some point, the victim (wife) attempted to exit via the rear door of the business. Castro, who had gone to the back of the business, grabbed her, pulled her out the back door, and pushed her towards his vehicle (the white SUV) at gunpoint. It was also discovered that Castro sent numerous threatening text messages to the victim just prior to this incident.
Officer Hunsicker charged Castro with Attempted Kidnapping,Terroristic Threats, Recklessly Endangering, and Persons not to Possess Firearms (Castro has a prior felony conviction) before MDJ Jimenez. Castro was committed to Lancaster County Prison on a state parole detainer and in lieu of $250,000.00 bail.
All persons accued of a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty.
