10.27.13 Shots Fired, Arrest

28 October 2013 by Det. Lt. Michael Winters

On 26 October 2013, at approx. 5:48 PM, officers from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of E. Strawberry Street for a report of shots fired.   While enroute to the scene, Lancaster Countywide Communications informed the responding officers that several shots had been fired into a residence in the block and that the suspect had fled the scene.   Officers arrived at the scene and broadcast a description of the suspect and a direction of travel, while other officers began checking the area.

Within a few minutes of the incident, Sergeant Phil Berkihiser and Officer Anthony Weaver spotted a group of three males walking east in the 400 block of Green Street.   One of the males appeared to match the description of the suspected shooter.   Officers were able to develop enough information from witnesses to arrest the suspect, who was then transported to the Lancaster City Police station for booking and processing.

Patrol officers from B Platoon were directed to a house in the 500 block of Woodward Street, where the suspect was believed to have been seen in the past.   The house was secured by the officers, while investigators attempted to get a search warrant for the residence.   Lancaster City Police Detectives, along with officers from Platoon B, executed a search warrant at 539 Woodward Street, as part of the investigation.   During the search of the residence, investigators located a .38 cal. handgun, which had been reported stolen to the Lancaster City Police in 2011.    Investigators also located approx. 106 grams of suspected crack cocaine, which was packaged in various quantities, as well as $2,500 cash and packaging material.
As a result of this investigation, the following charges were filed by Lancaster City Police Detective Roland “Bill” Breault:
