11.06.12 Arrests in Arby's Robbery

6 November 2012 by Det. Lt. Michael Winters

UPDATED INFORMATION AS OF 6 November 2012

On 5 November 2012, Detectives from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police - Violent Crime Unit conducted several interviews regarding the Arby’s robbery investigation. Based on information learned through those interviews, as well as evidence that was collected at the scene, investigators began focusing their attention on two employees of Arby’s. One of the employees was working at the time of the robbery, while the other one had left shortly before the robbery.

Investigators learned that the one employee, Lamar Eric REED, finished work around 5:15 PM. Investigators learned that after REED left Arby’s, he returned to the building through a service area, which is a part of the building that is accessible only to Park City Center employees.   Investigators learned that REED entered Arby’s through the back of the kitchen and made contact with the on-duty manager, Elizabeth CASTILLO.  Investigators learned that REED gave CASTILLO a threatening note demanding cash and that CASTILLO helped REED by showing the note to the other employees and gathering them in one area of the restaurant. REED, who was armed with a handgun, remained in the back of the kitchen, while CASTILLO removed cash from several different areas of the restaurant. Investigators learned that CASTILLO told the other employees that they were being robbed and then gave the cash to REED. REED then fled the scene through the service entrance and drove away from the scene in CASTILLO’s vehicle.

As a result of this investigation, Detective Manuel Luciano and Detective Sergeant Nathan Nickel arrested REED and CASTILLO at the Lancaster City Police station. Both were arrested without incident and were later arraigned by MDJ Herman. Both were committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $50,000.00 bail each.
