11.27.12 Suspicious Activity Involving Teenager

27 November 2012 by Detective Lieutenant Jarred Berkihiser

On Monday November 26 approximately 8:15AM Officer Sumrall, the patrol officer assigned as the school resource officer at Reynolds Middle School – 605 W. Walnut St. was alerted by school staff that a 13 year old female student was walking to school in the area of the 100 Block of Nevin St. when she was approached by an unknown White Male subject.  The unknown subject grabbed the student.  Apparently a citizen who was near a car in the same block saw that something was happening and the citizen intervened pushing the unknown male away from the student.  The student then ran to Reynolds Middle School and reported the incident to the staff.  The student was not injured.

Officer Sumrall and detectives with the Special Investigations Unit have been conducting additional follow up investigation to try and locate the unknown subject that approached the student.  Detectives are also interested in speaking with the citizen who intervened on the student’s behalf.  Detectives have been reviewing Safety Coalition video footage to see if the subject or the incident were caught on camera.  At this time officers do not have a better description of the subject.

The Bureau has increased patrols in the area of this incident and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or may have additional information is asked to call Detective Zook at 735-3317.
