2.7.14 Kidnapping, Arrests

7:39 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, officers responded to a residence in the 600 blk of Almanac Ave. for a weapons call that had just occurred. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victims / residents, a 23-year-old female, a 20-year-old male, and a 15-year-old female.  

 Officers learned that two male suspects, 23-year-old Eddie Ahorrio-Martinez, Jr and his father, 47-year-old Eddie Ahorrio-Saavedra, Sr., both residents of Columbia, PA had entered the Almanac Ave. residence through an unlocked door and abducted two children.

(Ahorrio-Martinez Jr. is the estranged husband of the 23-year-old female victim, and is the father of their two children, ages 3 (female) and 4 (male). The 20-year-old male victim is the current boyfriend of the 23-year-old female. The 15-year-old female victim is the sister of the 20-year-old male. All three victims and the two young children were present at the Almanac Ave residence at the time of this incident.)

After the suspects entered the residence, Ahorrio-Martinez Jr. displayed a handgun, which he pointed at the victims. Ahorrio-Saavedra Sr. then struck the 20-year-old male several times in the head with a metal wrench. Ahorrio-Martinez Jr. grabbed /stole a cell phone from the 15-year-old female’s hand. Ahorrio-Martinez Jr. then took / dragged the two children out of the residence and placed them into a vehicle. Both suspects then fled the scene with the children in the vehicle, a black 1993 Nissan Altima, PA reg. JJG 8170.

Portions of this incident were witnessed by several neighbors.

The 20-year-old male who was struck in the head sustained lacerations to the back of his head. He was transported to Lancaster General Hospital where he was treated and released.  

It was learned that Ahorrio-Martinez Jr. had made threatening statements to the 23-year-old female victim in the past week.   

An Amber Alert was issued by the PA State Police at the request of the Lancaster City Police.

At approx 5:19 a.m. this morning (2/7/14), Lancaster Police received information that the suspect vehicle was possibly near Vineland, NJ. It was initially believed the suspects may be enroute to Boston, MA. Police later received information that the vehicle was possibly headed toward Philadelphia.   

At approx 7:30 a.m. the Altima was spotted by a PA State Police Trooper Daniel Woody driving on Route 1 at I-76, then turning east on I-76.  Trooper Woody initiated a vehicle stop. He was assisted by Lt. Edward Baldini of the Philadelphia Police Dept.   

Both suspects were taken into custody and the children were found asleep in the back seat in good health.

The suspects and children were transported to the PA State Police Philadelphia Barracks.

Lancaster City Police detectives travelled to Philadelphia this morning to meet with investigators involved in the arrest. LCPD detectives returned the children to Lancaster and they have been reunited with their mother.

Kidnapping (2 counts)

Burglary

Robbery

Simple Assault (3 counts)

Criminal Conspiracy (Kidnapping)

Criminal Conspiracy (Burglary)

Eddie Ahorrio-Saavedra, Sr. has been charged with: 

Kidnapping (2 counts)

Burglary

Aggravated Assault

Criminal Conspiracy (Kidnapping)

Criminal Conspiracy (Burglary)

Both men are being transported to the Lancaster City Police station.
