4.22.13 Robbery Arrest

22 April 2013 by Lt. Todd Umstead

At 9:37 p.m. April 21, 2013 Lancaster City Police officers responded to the area of Crystal Park for a report of a robbery. Officers located the victim, a 22-year-old city man, who stated he was walking in the 1st blk. of Reo Ave. when he was approached by three male subjects, one of whom thrust a handgun against the victim's head and demanded that the victim surrender his belongings. The victim dropped a cigarette lighter and a small amount of cash on the ground, and the suspect forcefully removed a pair of headphones and an attached cell phone from the victim's head. The suspect picked up the lighter and money and all three suspects fled the scene.

Several minutes later, Off. Jared Snader observed three males matching the suspect descriptions in the 500 blk. of W. King St. Off. Snader attempted to stop these subjects, who fled on foot. One subject, a 14-year-old city boy, was quickly captured but the other two escaped. Off. Snader located the victim's cell phone under a nearby vehicle. The 14-year-old male then directed officers to the location of a backpack containing a B.B. gun, which is believed to be the weapon used in the robbery. The victim positively identified the 14-year-old male as the suspect who held the gun to his head and took his property.

As a result of this incident, the 14-year-old male was charged with Robbery by Off. Klete Griffin. The juvenile was committed to the Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center.
