6.10.13 Police involved Shooting - UPDATE

UPDATED INFORMATION:

At approximately 7:00 a.m. 6/10/13 Lancaster City Police Officers were dispatched to the 100 blk. N. Queen St. for a report af a man urinating in public. Officers made contact with a 35-year-old man who matched the description provided by dispatchers and obtained his identification card. While police were checking his i.d., the subject removed a knife from his pocket, charged and then lunged at one of the officers. The officer fired one shot at the subject, who then fled south on Queen St. Officers chased the man and at one point deployed a taser. The taser had no effect. Officers repeatedly commanded the man to drop the knife. Officers caught up to the man in the 1st block N. Queen St., at which time the man, still holding the knife, again lunged at officers. The same officer that fired the inital shot fired two more shots, striking the man once in the torso. An ambulance was summoned and the subject was transported to Lancaster General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. The 35-year-old man succommed to his injury and was pronounced dead at approx. 10:00 a.m. Lancaster City Police Detectives, in conjunction with the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office, are conducting the investigation into the shooting. 

Numerous witnesses have been interviewed and surveillance video of portions of the incident are being reviewed.
