9.11.12 Homicide, Stabbing - Manor St.

11 September 2012 by Cpt. Kent Switzer

Shortly after 8:00 pm, Monday evening, September 10th, Lancaster City Police Officers were dispatched to an apartment building/rooming house in the 400 blk. of Manor St. for the report of a stabbing which had just occurred.

Sgt. Gary McCrady and a contingent of officers arrived and heard screaming coming from inside the building. Upon entering they found one stabbing victim, a 43-year-old man who was a resident of the building, laying in the third floor hallway, suffering from multiple serious stab wounds.  He was subsequently conveyed to the hospital via ambulance, where he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead a short time later.  His name is not being released at this time, to allow for notification of next of kin.

The officers also located two females and two other males, who were also residents of this building.  One of the females, who was identified as Linda Rosario (49), was initially taken into custody for causing a disturbance and interfering with officers at the scene.  The other female, a 21-year-old resident of the building, and one of the males were ultimately taken to the hospital as well. The female was treated and released with a minor injury and the male, who was also suffering from multiple stab wounds, was taken into surgery.  These wounds are not believed to be life threatening.  This male was identified as….

                   Steven Richard Bedford, 18

                   Resident of that Building in

Detectives and Officers interviewed a number of witnesses, to include the aforementioned individuals, and processed the crime scene.  The preliminary investigation conducted thus far has revealed that a disturbance between individuals took place, which resulted in Steven Bedford going into his apartment, coming back out with a knife and confronting the 43-year-old victim in the hallway, just outside of his apartment, ultimately resulting in Bedford stabbing this 43-year-old victim.  Subsequent to this, Linda Rosario then stabbed Steven Bedford multiple times.  The knife believed to have been used in this stabbing was recovered at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, Detective George Bonilla is charging Steven Bedford with Criminal Homicide(F-1) for causing the death of the 43-year-old victim and Detective Donald Morant is charging Linda Rosario with Aggravated Assault (F-1) for stabbing Steven Bedford.  All of the charges are being brought before Magisterial District Judge Cheryl Hartman.  Assistant District Attorney Christopher Larsen also responded and assisted in this investigation.

As always, all those accused of crimes are presumed innocent until and unless found guilty in court.
