On Wednesday 5/8/2013 at approximately 12:48pm a resident in the 400 blk. E. Grant St. contacted Police. The resident had just seen someone in their home. A description was provided and multiple Officers checked the area. The suspect was not located at that time.

During the investigation, the Lancaster Safety Coalition was contacted and asked to check recorded video from the area prior to and immediately after the call to Police. From that request LSC was able to find images of a male on a bicycle in the area just prior to the burglary. That person matched the description provided by the victim.

Those images and recordings were forwarded to Det. Toby Hickey. During his investigation and due largely in part to the images captured by LSC, Det. Hickey was able to develop Hector Gonzalez-Rivera as a potential suspect. The victim in this case was able to identify Gonzalez-Rivera as the same person who had been in their home on 5/8/2013. A warrant was issued for his arrest. The information was passed on to Officers in the Patrol Division.

On Saturday 5/11/2013 at 10:17am, Off. Steve Reich, C Platoon, was on patrol in the area of the 600 blk. E. Mifflin St. and Stevens Ave. Off. Reich recognized Gonzalez-Rivera from the information forwarded by Det. Hickey. Gonzalez-Rivera was arrested on the outstanding Warrant for Burglary. He was arraigned by MDJ Benner and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of bail (amount of bail unavailable at time of press release).

Subsequent investigation by Det. Hickey led to the identification of Gonzalez-Rivera as a suspect in a least (2) additional residential burglaries in Lancaster City. Additional charges will be filed against Gonzalez-Rivera in those cases.

This case is an example of how teamwork between victims, Police and LSC can lead to the successful identification and apprehension of Criminal Suspects.
