Robbery - Arby's, Park City Mall

5 November 2012 by Det. Lt. Michael Winters

On November 4, 2012, at approx. 6:06 PM, officers from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police were dispatched to Arby’s, located at 132 Park City Center, for a shooting. It was later determined to be robbery, where no shots were fired.   Officers responded to the restaurant and began receiving information from Lancaster Countywide Communications regarding the suspect’s description. Responding officers from A Platoon began securing the scene and located the four employees, who had been working at Arby’s at the time of the robbery. The officers quickly escorted the employees to safety and helped evacuate employees from other, nearby businesses, since it was unknown if the suspect was still within the Park City Mall. Officers from the Pennsylvania State Police (Troop J), the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department and seven other police departments from across Lancaster County responded to assist with securing the large scene and with attempting to search the mall for the suspect. Several K-9 Units were brought in to assist with the search.

Officers quickly learned that the suspect was a tall, unknown race male, wearing black clothing with his head and face covered. The suspect displayed a handgun during the robbery and demanded money from the employees. The suspect then fled the restaurant with an undisclosed amount of cash, while the employees from Arby’s were attempting to flee to safety. None of the employees were injured during the robbery. A thorough search of the mall and the surrounding area was unsuccessful in locating the armed suspect, who may have fled prior to the officers’ arrival. Investigators spent the evening interviewing witnesses and processing the crime scene for evidence.    The investigation is on-going.
